SUNSET GROVE MEN’S CLUB
January 27, 2017
Hello and Happy New Year Sunset Grove Men’s Club members.
First of all, thanks to all of the officers and members for volunteering or just stepping in and giving a hand to make 2016 a great year.
Thanks to all the returning officers and welcome back Shawn Thomson as our VP/Tournament Chairman and Ken Ferguson is now our handicap chairman with Morgan Vandecoevering vacating that spot. Your 2017 officers are listed at the end of the letter. NOTE: ShawnZ will respond better to phone calls and texts vs. e-mails.
Our annual Club Membership fee is still $65.00 + $2.00 hole-in-one insurance a year.
Associate Members: Year 2 went well. A reminder, if you are an associate member the OGA will not recognize you as our club champion. Associate members will be allowed to play in our Club Championship, but the title will not be recognized by the OGA and you will not be eligible for the Tournament of Champions. We will recognize you though.
2017 Tournament changes: In order to hopefully gain more interest in the tournaments and participation on regular Saturdays, we’re attempting a reverse effect by eliminating some tournaments, replacing some with others in order to space out the tournaments. Most noticeably we’ve removed the Summer Classic / Calcutta this year. For what it takes to put this tournament on, it’s not worth it for 18 guys like we had last year. Instead we’re replacing it with the Lone Wolf single day tournament.
We’ve rearranged the dates and will basically have 1 tournament a month right in the middle of every month. Other changes we removed the early August tournament and the Grove Cup is now a TBD, possibly St. Baldrick’s or bring back the McKay vs. Sunset?. We still have the date blocked but stay tuned for what it will be. We’re also going to attempt to bring back the Single Elimination Match Play starting March 1st. I will run it; first matches get 3 weeks to complete, 2 weeks per match beyond that. I will strictly adhere to this schedule and start flipping coins for matches in order to keep it moving.
We will still keep the incentive for participation and new membership, a $5.00 credit to anyone who brings in a new member. This $5.00 can also be used instantly as a discount against the new member’s dues, or it will be credited to you the following year. I believe everyone who participated in this last year gave their $5 credit to their friends. If you have a credit coming, please contact us and we’ll get that taken care of for you. You can contact myself and/or Joe Vandomelen.
Sign up’s for tournaments: AGAIN, We really need to focus on getting signed up for weekend tournaments earlier in the week. So this year make sure you are signed up by Tuesday the week of the tournament. This will be the new standard moving forward.
Men’s Club days are: Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m., Thursdays at 11:00 a.m., and Saturdays at 8:00
a.m. March 1st – Oct 31st, Saturday play Nov 1st – Feb 28th/29th, starts at 9:00 AM. Please sign up by Tuesday afternoons for Thursday play, Thursday afternoons for Saturday play, & Tuesday afternoons for weekend tournaments. You can come by or call the clubhouse to have your name added to the list.
The course needs to block out our tee times. If you don’t get signed up you may not be able to play. Please pay, sign in and check in at the counter for your green / cart fees. And the cash sign in at the table for the club games. Also to help the course, please make sure you check in with the clubhouse when making the turn on 18 holes.
ALL ALCOHOL ON THE COURSE MUST BE PURCHASED FROM THE CLUBHOUSE!
Please respect this rule so Sunset Grove doesn’t risk losing their liquor license, we all enjoy the selection and prices of our favorite frosty beverages they provide, let’s keep it that way!
New cart path’s! For those of you who haven’t been out for a while, Dave has continued installing even more paths and signs throughout the course to help keep carts out of trouble and help keep the golf course in great condition. Please stick to the paths and respect the boundaries.
If you have any ideas about increasing membership and participation I’m all ears. I encourage you to bring your friends out to some Saturdays or open tournaments.
We have the 3X guest clause in our bylaws to help bring people out, show them what the course and our club is all about and hopefully entice them to become new members.
WEBSITE: At the annual meeting I mentioned that I was working on a website… I haven’t had the time I’d like to get it launched, but I will try. If anyone wants to help me I’m using the free service through WIX.com and I can give you access.
Thank you and let’s have a great year, President Bush
